Sarah Pinborough is an internationally best-selling author who appeared as a Sunday Times Number One and New York Times bestseller. Her writings are translated and marketed in over 30 territories of the world. Over 25 novels spanning various genres have been published. Some of her latest ones are Behind Her Eyes, now also a smashing Netflix limited series; Dead to Her, developed by Amazon Studios; and 13 Minutes, among others being produced by Compelling Pictures and The Death House. She lives in the historic town of Stony Stratford, home to the Cock and Bull story, with her dog Ted. Her next novel, Insomnia, is out in 2022.

Biography

Pinborough was born in 1972 in Buckinghamshire, England. Her father was a diplomat, and because of this occupation, as a child, she regularly relocated between countries throughout the world—Syria, India, the Sudan, and Russia. Following ten years at an English boarding school, she attempted several other careers before settling as a secondary school teacher. She taught for six years before changing to be a full-time writer. Her first published work was a horror novella titled Express Delivery in 2001. She then started writing novels, and six of these were published by Leisure Books. From horror, she shifted to writing the trilogy The Dog-Faced Gods (2010-12).

As Sarah Silverwood

Under the pseudonym Sarah Silverwood, she wrote the Nowhere Chronicles young adult series. Pinborough shot to fame in 2017 with the cross-genre thriller Behind Her Eyes, which was adapted as a limited series for Netflix in 2021.

Sarah Pinborough published her YA urban fantasy trilogy The Nowhere Chronicles under the pseudonym Sarah Silverwood, set across multiple parallel world versions of London. The trilogy has since been re-released under the author’s real name. Here is a list of her works:

Adaptations

Several of her novels have been optioned or adapted for TV or film. This includes:

  • In 2012, it was announced that director Peter Medak had been attached to direct Cracked, a screenplay based on Pinborough’s first novel, The Hidden, but it has not been aired.
  • The Forgotten Gods/Dog-Faced Gods Trilogy was optioned for a television series in 2014 but has not been aired.
  • Her teenage thriller, 13 Minutes, was bought by Netflix in 2016, with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage writing the adaptation.
  • Netflix has produced a miniseries based on the psychological thriller novel Behind Her Eyes by Pinborough. The miniseries was released on 17 February 2021.

Screenwriting

Pinborough has also worked as a writer for the BBC and many other TV stations. In 2012, Pinborough wrote Old School Ties, the second episode of the ninth series of the BBC television crime drama New Tricks. On Dec 4, 2023, it was reported that Pinborough is set to adapt her Dog Faced Gods novels for television through Red Planet Pictures. In 2024, Vicky McClure will feature in Insomnia, which will be released on Paramount+.

Personal life

Pinborough was born in 1972 in Buckinghamshire, UK. She is a patron of the Educational Wealth Fund. There is not much information regarding her marriage or family life.
